ISSUES AND RECORD

SENIOR SERVICES

Since he was first elected in 2018, Chris Trubac has been a supporter of services for seniors including Meals on Wheels, in-home care, legal services, home repair and chore services, and other community resources. Chris has been a staunch supporter of the county’s partnership with the Tri-County Office on Aging (TCOA), ensuring that TCOA has the support it needs to guarantee quality of life for the county’s aging population. As chairperson of the Human Services Committee, Chris has facilitated ongoing discussions with TCOA and supported the use of millage dollars to fund these vital services while keeping wait lists to a minimum.

ENVIRONMENTAL ACTION

Chris Trubac was the first Ingham County Commissioner to propose a net-zero greenhouse gas emissions goal. In 2021, Chris drafted and introduced the Resolution to Declare a Committment to Climate Justice, working with his colleagues to build consensus and get the resolution passed. Upon its adoption, the resolution committed Ingham County to a promise of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to net-zero by the year 2040. The resolution also made a commitment to ensure that county residents are treated equitably as continued climate actions are considered by the county, and promised future investments in “green jobs” and just economic transitions for those employed within the fossil fuel industry. Chris led a push to revive the county’s previously-defunct Environmental Affairs Commission (EAC), drafting the Climate Justice resolution as a guiding document and mission statement for the commission’s work. He was subsequently elected chairperson of the commission by its members. Chris worked with fellow EAC members to evaluate bids and recommend a vendor for the county’s first-ever comprehensive energy efficiency audit. The audit is expected to be completed in the summer of 2022. The results of the audit will inform decisions made by the Board of Commissioners going forward, supporting transitions to cleaner, more efficient forms of energy use.

ANIMAL CONTROL

As a member of the Law and Courts Committee and the Animal Control Shelter Advisory Board, Chris has worked with animal control staff to ensure that Ingham County’s stray and abandoned animals are treated with respect and care. He has also supported the department’s requests to use millage dollars to increase its law enforcement operations, putting a stop to animal abuse and cruelty. Chris believes that dog fighting poses a severe threat to public safety and that gambling on the lives of companion animals has no place in Ingham County. He will continue to support county law enforcement in putting a stop to these unconscionable practices.

PUBLIC SAFETY

As a lifelong resident of Holt, Chris recognizes the importance of keeping gun violence out of our community. That’s why he has worked with his colleagues on the Law and Courts Committee to develop and implement strategies for making neighborhoods safer.

Chris was an original supporter of implementing the Advance Peace “Peacemaker Fellowship” model for interrupting gun violence, which is now being put into practice in partnership with the City of Lansing. The program will provide guidance, mentorship and other resources to individuals who are considered at risk for involvement in violent crime, providing pathways to better opportunities and choices that will prevent violence from occurring. The model, which will operate through a third-party contractor receiving funds from multiple sources, has an impressive track-record of success. PARKS AND TRAILS

Since 2019, Chris has been working as a member of the Ingham County Parks and Recreation Commission to ensure equitable funding of the county’s parks and trails. As a firm believer in nature therapy, Chris has always insisted that everyone should have access to opportunities for outdoor recreation, regardless of their zip code.

Since Chris was first elected in 2018, the county has committed over $3.5 million in trails funding to Delhi Township, reversing course on a long history of denied applications for projects in Holt. Chris has also worked to ensure the continued development of a “county-wide” system of trails, benefitting urban and rural residents alike.
